Building simple web sites
The very simplest way to have a web site is to use an Online Web
Site Builder. To do this you just go to a web site provider that offers an
Online Web Site Builder.
By now your probably saying... just what is an Online Web Site Builder.
It is basically software that you use to build a web site that is web based and
located at your web site provider. The software normally has a lot of
predefined layouts and parts that help you quickly get your web site up and
running. All you have to do is go to the provider's
web site
and sign up for a package that includes an Online Website Builder.
So where can you go. Many places are available,
however I recommend
1and1.com.
I have used their services for some time now and have been very happy.
Once you sign up, you do a few basic setups and go to the Web Site Builder
software and in a few minutes you will have a basic web site up and running.
You can then change it as you like. Currently, at the time of this
writing, at
1and1.com you can
get all this for $2.99 a month. They have excellent phone support
and you can upgrade any time you like.
I would suggest you get the Microsoft Hosting package. Then later
if you decide to buy a web design program like Front Page, you can utilize the
programs interface to easily upload your site to the web provider when you make
changes.
Here is an example of just how easy it is to sign up with 1and1.com:
1.
You will need to have a few ideas about what name you would like users to
type
in to reach your web site.
2.
Now navigate to
1and1.com and click the package you want.
I would suggest
"MS Hosting" and then "1&1 MS Beginner".
Click "Sign Up" and then "Continue".
3.
Now you can test the name you have chosen to see if it is available.
Once you have
a name confirmed you can then finish the sign up process.
Once done, go to the
Web Site Builder software and in a few minutes you will have
a web site up and
running.
Note: There is no charge to do this until you
find a good name and decide to continue the signup process.
In most cases I do not recommend any free hosting company.
Many of the free companies will give you a site, however the link to your site
is usually long and hard to remember.
Instead of
"www.yourwebsite.com"
It is usually more like "www.specialHosting.com/2000/mywebsite"
Exact format of line above may be different, however the length is what
is bad and
hard to remember.
Now if the free site is not a long name, you will usually be forced to
display their advertising or eventually have to pay a fee for something.
Just remember you don't always get something for nothing.
I have used companies recently that were 11.95 / month and they had
terrible control panels and web pages that were so bad it was very hard to
manage your web site.

Additional Info on building web sites:
When building Web Sites you will need a lot of info.
Many items like planning, layout and content are obvious. But just
exactly what other items should you do that may not be so obvious?
The links on the this page and the info below will help you find many of these
other items that are needed when constructing your web site.
Site Maps:
When you think your done building a page or web site, use all the links
under "Google Free Sitemap Maker for XML Format" and "Site
Building". These links will help to give you an idea where
any problems may be and some will create the site map for you. Then when
you are ready and the site is done, submit it to the major search engines.
Link Exchanges:
If you exchange web site links with other web sites like yours, your
traffic will increase and your ranking among search engines will also increase.
You do not always have to just exchange with other single sites, but may
use a service that will put you in contact with many other sites at one time.
This type of service is called a link exchange.
Below this text you will see listings of affiliated link exchange sites.
These are sites that act as a go between putting you in contact with other sites
that you can share or exchange links with. Links below are just a few
examples. To find more just search Google for the words "Link
Exchange" maybe add free to the search too. The quality of Link
Exchanges varies a whole lot, so be sure to research each one.
A word of caution here... When you use a link
exchange be sure to not use one that just simply puts up pages of links.
Make sure the link exchange is the type that puts you in contact with other
similar and interesting sites.
